2008 Phoenix Santarchy Bar Crawl
Saturday, 20 December 2008 16:15

The very random, yet very funny Arizona Cocaphony Society is having their annual "Santarchy" bar crawl.  The crawl has one simple rule, and we quote "Holiday apparel is mandatory! A Santa hat is not enough."

The festivities start at 5pm in the parking garage on 3rd St. and Scottsdale Rd. in Old Town (behind Acme and Dos Gringos).  There is no set schedule or bar list, but there is a text messaging service in place to text fellow santas where to go next.

Lodge pushes dive bar to new heights

Scottsdale's newest buzz-worthy club has almost nothing in common with the ones people are usually clamoring to get into.

There's no cover, no dress code and no VIP area.

No one tosses around the words “upscale,” “luxe” or “elegant.”

But Friday, Saturday and even Sunday nights, the Lodge, a self-described dive, has been packed wall-to-wall since opening Nov. 26. It's partly because of the concept and partly because of the owners.

So where will you be celebrating this great American holiday tradition? Let’s review the options:

American Junkie is advertising a Thanksgiving Eve promotion including giveaways by “Guess by Marciano” but no drink specials to back it… hmmm. Eitherway they are going to be packed. That whole “being able to see and here the person your talking to” vibe they got going on is really catching on. Who would have thought?

ReverseHappyHour.com has the inside scoop on two new venues coming to Old Town, Scottsdale before the new year.

The first, opening later this month is going to be called American Junkie. Its located where the old Tequilla Grill used to be, just north of Drift on 75th Street. The interior was described to us as “an upscale Mickeys… with a large Schlits Beer miral and concert posters on the walls… a round bar in the middle and a smaller one off to the side.”

Let’s hope they stick with the decor and don’t fall into that confused Dirty Pretty category - you know, where there’s guitars on the wall but rap music coming from the speakers.
