Disco ain't Dead

Disco ain't dead, and its not gay either!

Last night Disco hosted a media party to help announce its presence as new venue in Old Town Scottsdale.  Writers and Photographers from ReverseHappyHour.com, 944, AZCentral.com, DK Media, and others were invited to dance, party and enjoy an open bar all night - which we did!

The media party was not a Grand Opening.  Disco actually opened its doors 3 weeks ago without any large scale promotions or marketing (no Grand Opening plans have been announced).  The soft opening was a way to work out the kinks and test the concept.

Disco is owner John Nemeth's vision of a "post-modern interpretation of the classic discotheque from the 70's.  A place you went to for the music and the people."  This ideology can be seen in the plain, warehouse styled grey walls that surround the $100,000 LED, touch sensitive dance floor.

John laughed, "If you're not at the bar, you should be on the dance floor!"

MMA Hot Spots

With MMA (mixed martial arts) gaining more and more popularity, various fight leagues (most notably the UFC) have spent millions of dollars on marketing and have world wide fan bases.  Now, with major alcohol sponsors like Bud Light, Casadores Tequila, and Mickey's Malt Liquor supporting these leagues, many bars are capitalizing on fight nights.

ReverseHappyHour.com has scoped the valley and has put together our list of the best places to go and watch the fights.

Number 1:  Versus Sports Grill - Scottsdale

Equiped with over 30 HD TVs, there's not a bad seat in the house!  Throw in cute waitresses "refereeing" the event (and taking your orders) and a slew of promotional girls passing out free shots, you can't go wrong here.

They have 14 beers on tap, a full menu, daily drink specials and fight night cover is only $5!  You can even take your girlfriend here because the food is that good...

Number 2:  American Junkie - Old Town

Good ol' Junkie!  There is something for everyone at this place!

The best part about watching fights here, no cover and afterwards you can stick around because Old Town is always crazy on Saturday nights.

Number 3: The Tavern on Mill - Mill Ave

No cover, 28 TVs, and real people to fight after the fight (oh how we love drunk college kids)!  The Tavern is a fun, classy place to drink any time with a great menu and great specials.

Well fight fans.. did we miss any other major spots???

Bartender Says - Bar Tabs

Based on the recommendations of a few local bartenders (whom ReverseHappyHour.com relies heavily upon for new content) we are adding a new blog post entitled "Bartender Says".

In our "Bartender Says" posts, we will discuss various bar topics, share bartender's advice, answer your questions and hopefully spread general rules regarding social bar etiquette that bartenders feel all bar patrons should know and follow.

In this post we will discuss the subject of bar tabs.  A bar tab is the open, ongoing bill a customer keeps with the bar in exchange for a credit card.  It allows for quick and easy service between the bartender and  bar patron and also allows for the tracking of all drinks ordered by said patron.

Is Shotgun Betty's Racist?

There has been a lot of talk about the soon-to-open Shotgun Betty's in Old Town, Scottsdale.  You might be surprised, however, to hear that a lot of that talk is about the racial connotations Shotgun Betty's bar design and advertising has suggested.

Mickey's Hangover Re-Opening

Mickey's Hangover in Old Town, Scottsdale will be re-opening very soon!  The owner, who also owns Furio, is going to rename it to The Hangover.

Mickey's closed early last year.  Employees said problems arose due to poor communication between staff and owners, not from a lack of customer support.

Expect The Hangover to be open around April of this year.

Whisper Lounge Shut Down

9pm last Friday night, the Arizona Liquor Board payed a not so quiet visit to Whisper Lounge.  With guests already at the bar and the staff setting up for a potentially busy night, the Liquor Board put a hault on all alcohol sales.

Apparently Whisper Lounge had let their temporary Liquor License expire, by over 2 weeks, which is a big no-no!  C'mon, liquor licenses are what keep average Joes from selling beers out of their cars.  So how could a club owner let that happen?
