There has been a lot of talk about the soon-to-open Shotgun Betty's in Old Town, Scottsdale. You might be surprised, however, to hear that a lot of that talk is about the racial connotations Shotgun Betty's bar design and advertising has suggested.
Let's first start by saying that ReverseHappyHour.com is an unbiased 3rd party! So we'll just present the facts!
Fact #1: Shotgun Betty's is going for a cowboy shiek, edgy southern look. Like we said a 1000 times, expect a Coyote Ugly styled bar with girls in leather boots, short jean shorts and maybe a few cowboy hats dancing on bar tops!
Fact #2: Scottsdale's over-saturated bar scene is a tough market... Whisper Lounge anyone? Bar owner's do not want to turn away any customers, ever!
Fact #3: Shotgun Betty's used an image of a noose in its 944 Hiring Clinic ad - which, as we all know, was not rejected by 944's editors.
Fact #4: Shotgun Betty's is using 2 confederate flags in the design of their interior. They are hung on the wall behind the main bar.
Based on your historical knowledge, Fact #4 may be a case closed. Others suggest that they are just paying homage to the South and do not represent the Civil War circa Confederate idealisms.
You know what they say, "even bad press is good press". What do you think?
